imo, throughout the killing game she does the best she possibly can to ensure everyone's safety in her own way. the concept of Atua is essentially yonaga's will carried out through her beliefs, similar to any cult leader's message. Most faith-based systems' goals are a combination of rightfulness, control, and as you can imagine, belief. i'm pretty ambivalent about her - if i met her in a personal setting i'd probably dislike her, but as a character she's a really neat personality. It's so interesting that yonaga's your all-time favorite. Like, I don't think she'll ever be a huge favorite.she's still like a broken record re: Atua, and the blood sacrifices and attributing her own decisions to Atua are both still disturbing. Which is cold, but we needed people like that in the trials. Like, in ch 2, she was willing to throw her friend under the bus if there was a chance that she was the culprit, instead of believing in her just because she was her friend. I also realized just how much trouble she caused the mastermind in ch 3 by trying to stall the game, and how much it must've pissed Tsumugi off when she smashed that flashback light.Īnd she was pretty logical in the trials, too. And upon rewatching the game via LPs, my opinion shifted to thinking that she was really just trying to end the game in her own way, like Kaede and Rantaro and Kokichi. Then after I finished the game, I happened upon this fancomic which made me really think about why she did what she in ch 3. I was ambivalent toward her until ch 3 because of the Atua thing, and then in ch 3 I thought she was probably the scariest antagonist that this game had thrown at us thus far (other than Monokuma, obv) and was kinda both disturbed and impressed by how quickly she turned half of the group into her cult.
